Nathaniel Gant Sr. was born in October 1961 in Washington, DC — a true son of the city who grew into a man deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

From an early age, Nate was a standout — both in spirit and in ability. Known as the one of the best athletes in the family, he excelled in football, basketball, and track, bringing the same quiet determination to everything he pursued. Yet athletics was only one side of him. Nate was outgoing and well-rounded, with a genuine love for music and dancing that those close to him never forgot. He received his education in the DC public schools, attending Kenilworth Elementary, Roper Junior High, and Spingarn High School, where his sharp mind and natural intelligence left an impression on all who knew him.

As an adult, Nate carried those same qualities, including creativity, wisdom, and warmth, into every room he entered. He had an eye for fashion and a gift for knowing exactly what a moment called for. Intelligent and deeply intuitive, he was the kind of person who always knew what to say and when to say it. His senseof humor was one of a kind; he could make anyone laugh and had a way of lifting the energy of any gathering simply by being present. Nate was fiercely independent, deeply family-oriented, and above all, a dedicated and loving father who never hesitated to show those around him just how much they meant to him.

He loved playing cards and treasured time spent with the people he cared about most. His spirit was vibrant, his presence unforgettable. A proud member of Edgewood Baptist Church, his faith was the foundation that empowered and encouraged him every step of the way.

Over the course of his life, he built a career grounded in hard work, service, and dedication, including an extensive career in food service at distinguished establishments, reflecting his deep respect for and dedication to those he served — including our veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Trannie Gant, Carrie Dubois-Giles, his siblings Theresa and Timothy Gant, and his son Nathaniel Parker.

Nate is survived by his daughter, Shanima Parker; his four siblings — Rufus, Sheila, Patricia, and Benjamin Gant; the mother of his children, Paulette Parker; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched in ways that will not be forgotten.

Nathaniel Gant Sr. transitioned peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 64. He will be deeply missed.
